On the 1st of November 2020, not so punctually at 11:11, a heartfelt marriage happened between Levi van Gelder and Francisca Khamis Giacoman. With a small group of guests but a large crowd of people tuning in via livestream, they celebrated the notion of love in a joyous ceremony. Through reflecting on the in-betweenness of their love relationship (boundless, fluid, unconditional), but also on all other types of love unrepresented in the institute of marriage (restricted, solid, and loaded with conditions and consequences), they seek to reclaim and re-appropriate the namesake and bureaucratic benefits of marriage to conform to our way of being, living and loving.

Driven by visual storytelling, artistic research and pedagogic collaboration, I aim to unearth frictions between compounds of reality and fiction, representation and misrepresentation, and to tap into the dormant spaces of critical and whimsical play nestled inside others. By means of performative research, I sketch out a realm that ranges from provocative tropes within pop culture to history formation. Through quick-witted storytelling and critique, I create a (hyper)reality show of distorted nonhuman characters that question authenticity and reveal layers of depth in the superficial.
